About

Renier Prins Architects is a bespoke architectural design practice based in George, Garden Route - Southern Cape. We specialize in residential and group housing schemes. The practice is design driven, and we proudly provide our clients with well thought out designs and excellent service, throughout the architectural spectrum of styles and activities.

We thoroughly enjoy modern contemporary architecture, and find it extremely pleasant to work on high-end modern projects. The practice was established in 2011 by Renier Prins, a professional architect with more than 20-years experience covering the full scope of architectural activities. Renier gained valuable international experience during his 6-years sojourn in Belgium, where he was employed as project architect, and eagerly indulged himself in their advanced construction methods and innovative designs.

As a dynamic and modern practice, we integrate the latest technology in response to the complexity and challenges of contemporary architecture. To ensure value creation, we take a careful approach to fully understand the clients' unique desires and concerns regarding their projects. Our design process is fully transparent and interactive; we really appreciate and value our client's input and feedback.

We are committed to provide our clients with personal attention and sterling service throughout.

“The dialogue between client and architect is about as intimate as any conversation you can have, because when you're talking about building a house, you're talking about dreams.”

About Renier Prins

As a child I was awed by my father's big drawing board (he was an engineer) and after reading Ayn Rand's 'The Fountainhead', I decided to become an architect.

I studied at UPE where I received my Bachelor in Buildings Arts and later Bachelor of Architecture (1996). My early career started as a candidate architect in Tableview, whereafter I joined an architectural company in Fransschoek for about 3 years. I accepted a position in Paarl and moved there.

In 2001 I decided to broaden my horizon and gain European experience. I went abroad and settled in Antwerpen (Belgium), where I was employed as a project architect for the next six years. My time in Europa was well spent on really modern and contemporary architecture. I came to love the juxtaposition and combination of modern and old architectural elements.

I returned to South Africa in September 2007 and as luck would have it, met my wife to be, 3 weeks later. My frail parents retired in Hartenbos, so I decided to settle in the Garden Route. I joined a local George architectural company, and re-adjusted to the South African architectural practices and construction methods.

Between 2009 and 2011, I was chairman of the Southern Cape Chapter, of the Cape Institute for Architecture.

In 2012 I started my own practice: Renier Prins Architects - George, Southern Cape - and have not looked back since. I am continuously and directly involved with all the projects in the office. While our practice's culture is relaxed and informal, I take the responsibilities of my clients' trust very seriously, and really do my best to provide them with a pleasurable experience and superb product.

“The architect must get to know the people who will live in the planned house. From their needs, the rest inevitably follows.”

- Mies van der Rohe -
