HOUSE DANIELS - HERSHAM - MOSSEL BAY

Nestled against a steeply sloped hill in Hersham, House Daniels commands impressive south facing sea views. The site is severely impacted by a domineering timber structure situated on the neighbouring property. This required a non-submissive response - cantilevered box shaped structures were utilized to present a muscular architectural impression. The use of contrasting colour and floor to ceiling fenestration, further accentuates the floating and authoritative nature of the cubistic envelope.

Covered patios provide full exposure to the splendid ocean views for all the living areas and bedrooms. Due to the pervasive cold sea wind, an alternative outside entertainment area is provided on the sheltered north facing side of the house. North sun is allowed into the dwelling through an extensive glass facade at the open staircase, which also winds around a double storey internal plant feature.

“People who build their own homes tend to be courageous. These people are curious about life. They’re thinking about what it means to live in a house, rather than just buying a commodity and making it work.”
